Sounds of the hurt and the dying
The heartbroken mothers wailing, crying
The whizzing, banging of the bomb
These are the sounds they heard in 'Nam.

The people marched on through the streets
Moving their hips to a new beat:
"Love, not war," and "Peace and love," is what they say
What could be heard in the USA.

They fought and killed and dreamed of home
But "home" just gave them sticks and stone.
They came back hurting, bleeding, needing
But what was given was an extra beating.

Those brave men (and they WERE brave)
How hurt and scared they must have been.
Now they're old, but they're still here
And their stories wait for us to hear.

Let us never forget:
That we owe them a great debt.
So give them our love, our support and our care
These men deserve to know that we're grateful that they were there.
For the men who went and fought in Vietnam. You guys never got the proper welcome and thanks that you all deserved. I'm sorry about that.
And especially for my Papa. You are the kindest, most gentle man I have ever known. Your kindness and love has been a great light in my life. I know that the war still haunts you and hurts you. But you've never once been mean or cruel to any of us because of your hurts. You are my hero.

This is an amazing poem. It is a wonder how people can be that cruel. And I thank you for posting it. Your words have touched my heart . And Thank your papa for me, since he fought for the freedom that I have today. I respect all who have served to keep our freedom we have, and if people were more accepting they would thank those who have fought and died for our freedom.
